Whatâs in Your Hands? - The Gift of Friendship
Object: Friendship bracelet or item from a special friend
âIf we want friends, we must show our selves friendly" (Prov. 18: 24).
Â
The word "friend" is found about 90 times in the Bible. When I hear this verse it always reminds me of the friendship of Ruth and Naomi. Chapter one in the book of Ruth highlights the beginning of their lifelong friendship; however, verses 16 and 17 demonstrates the commitment of their friendship. Ruth said, "Do not urge me to leave you or turn back from following you; for where you go, I will go, and where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God. Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. Thus may the LORD do to me, and worse, if anything but death parts you and me". Proverbs 17:17 says, âA friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversityâ. Which means a friend will always be there for you. Do you have that kind of a friend? Are you that type of friend? Jesus is our greatest friend. The Bible says, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" (Jn. 15: 13). Jesus tasted death for every man and shed his blood for the remission of our sins.
Devotional Assignment Instructions:  Do you have a special friend that you can depend on to always be there for you and you for them? Perhaps God has spoken to your heart to initiate a friendship between you and another church member, a co-worker, or a neighbor. Share a brief testimony about your special friend.
