qualities of Greek drama

One of the beautiful qualities of Greek drama is that it weaves fantastic characters and tales into an ancient setting, but many of the traits the characters embody resonate with modern readers. Reflect upon the appeal of ancient Greek theater, and respond to these questions: 

  • At what point in the play were you most distanced as a reader? At what point were you most engaged as a reader?
  • What universal human traits do you see reflected in the characters in the play? How did Sophocles draw you in as a reader through characterization and character development?
  • What âlarger truthsâ do you take away from this drama? What applications to modern life or modern spirituality do you see in reading Oedipus the King?
