Time period (dates): March 13th 2017-April 21th The objective for this time period was to have the questionnaire developed and the
exercise book created.
As discussed on the previous report the exercise class instead of doing it after lunch per
the senior’s consensus they wanted it before lunch. I noticed the percentage of participation has
went up after changing the classes to before lunch rather than after lunch. They were more active
by actually starting the “eat healthy” session part of our exercise program by asking about what’s
the best time during the night to stop eating? Should we eat before heading to bed? As we get
older do we still continue to exercise even though we our bones are getting weaker? My answer
to those questions were simply “the food we eat is what our body is, exercise is for everyone
from all age ranges we just have to know the limit that your body can take.
We hit a roadblock in our routine exercise classes as time went by because most of my
participant fell ill, hospitalized and some went on weeks of vacation. It put a little delay in
continuing the classes as majority of them were gone. For the few (6) who were present did
engage in the classes but wasn’t as effective as I would’ve liked. 5 showed great improvement in
terms of them actually doing some the steps at their house, with family members. Another who
attends the centers said she can now walk to the center by parking her car across the street and
before she wasn’t able to do that. I was amazed and glad that those little 30-45 minutes CBE
were actually doing some changes into their daily/weekly exercise routine. The tracking on how
many of the seniors could remember the exercise movements was actually great almost all
participant knew the next step we needed to do before I changed the page on the book. One of the biggest hurdles we encountered was the unforeseen sickness of some of the
seniors and the rest going on family vacation out of state. Overall I believe the project was a
success and can’t wait to visit the center once in a while after the internship is over.
