Summary Paragraph

• Is the summary around 100 words?
• Does the summary mention the main points in the order they appear in the original text?
• Does the summary leave out unnecessary details.
• Is the summary well-paraphrased (no changes in meaning)?

Critique Paragraphs

• Highlight the topic sentence of each body paragraph. Is it a clear topic sentence that introduces the focus of that paragraph? If not, how can it be improved?
• Do critique paragraphs focus on the guiding provided in the PowerPoint and assignment prompt?
• Do critique paragraphs successfully identify strengths and weakness of the arguments?
• Are the critique points explained clearly?
• Are the critique points relevant?
• Did the author avoid excessive quoting from the original text?
• Did the author avoid irrelevant comments (e.g., how the readers feel)?
• Are there any repetitions or sentences that break the flow?
• Are there any irrelevant examples/sentences that break the flow?

Conclusion

• Does the conclusion start with the restatement of the main points?
• Does the conclusion briefly explain how/why the evaluation was reached?
• If possible, does the conclusion provide any recommendations?

 

Formatting and Grammar

• Is the APA cover page formatted correctly?
• Are the rest of the pages formatted according to APA? Are the in-text citations done correctly?
• Are the end-of-text references formatted correctly?
• Do the end-of-text references match the in-text citations?
• Does the author use academic tone and vocabulary?
• Do you see any of the issues that are mentioned in the Common Errors document?
• Are there any ambiguous sentences due to vocabulary choice or weak grammar?
• Are there any sentence fragments or any run-on sentences?
• Are there any punctuation or spelling mistakes?
