Perception of time
Although the way of life in South America is in many aspects much closer to the
European one than in neighboring countries, the time there is less appreciated than,
say, in Russia. Slowness is also accepted in business life, and especially in the work
of public institutions and state structures. In the process of doing the work, I felt
some relaxation about the deadlines from my colleague, but it was also justified by
the fact that he was very busy working in Russia.
Cooperation
Unfortunately we did not manage to communicate personally on the issues of our
work. At the time when I was in Barcelona, my colleague worked and lived in Russia.
And, ironically, when he was going to return to school in GBS, I went back to Russia.
So our interaction passed through social networks. But it was not a hindrance to
doing our work.
The solution of conflict situations or misunderstanding.
I believe that we might have some problems in communication and
misunderstanding because of my level of English and maybe because of different
temperaments and mentality.
Personal relationships and Communications.
As I described in the "interaction" section above, we were not able to communicate
personally when doing our work. However, I would like to assume this situation in
terms of differences in the culture of communication.
Business activity in South America directly depends on successful acquaintances
and good personal relationships with the right people. To advance in business
circles, it is necessary to have not only good upbringing and education, but also the
support of a family respected in society.
Latin Americans in the majority are extroverts and at dialogue very temperamentally.
I understood that it is better to discuss important topics not by phone, but in person,
but we did not have this opportunity. With all the focus on the result, purposefulness
and pragmatism of my colleague, I understood that it is impossible not to take into
account the human factor. In this case it was his busyness at work. But now we
seem to have exchanged roles, because I'm preparing for a diploma, and my
colleague is in my position. However, my partner should not have a feeling that I'm
just using him.
Close and trusting relations between business people are the basis of successful
cooperation in South America. However, everything should be in moderation. If I
abused the goodwill of a partner, the performance of our work could be delayed or

The following is a resume from our multicultural work experience. 2 people from 2
different countries (Colombia-Russia) regarding traditional, methods of doing things,
time management..etc. Therefore I will make emphasis on different factors which I
think are the most relevant and influential to mention:
Time: My partner in this assignment who comes from Russia shows at times to be
more worried about the deadlines than I was For eg: He was getting in contact with
me very often asking me either for updates or just my point of view about some of
the content he was putting in the assignment. I personally felt good about that due to
i felt like he was putting an effort and our work could turn out to be how we expected
it to be. In my case, coming from a Latin American country we usually take deadlines
not so serious, we always try to make it to the deadlines but at the same time we like
to work at our own pace.
Relationship: I can not really provide much information nor details about the
development of our work relationship due to I was an online student at the time and
we were only getting in touch by messages because of the distance. However, we
were communicating often discussing and getting ideas together about the work. I
realised that from his culture people take studying as a goal or a finish line rather
than just a process of education, for them is more of a competition to get to the end
and for me was just more as a process where you learn regarding the now in the
moment regardless of the grade at the end.
Was it a challenge? yes, In my opinion it is always a challenge when it comes to
working with someone from a different culture. I would say it is a challenge in a
positive way since I am constantly learn new ways and methods of doing things as
well as analysing different behaviors under pressure, pressure lets say from
deadlines or the difficulty of the work itself.
Moments of conflict? none, I guess this is because I have a background with
Russian culture due to I have lived there and i know the behavior of the people
overall so i could adjust to his way of working making the work experience very
smooth and as clear and brief as possible.
Manage deadlines
One of the most common techniques of time management is delegation. This
technique is named in honor of 34th US President Dwight David Eisenhower. Since
he was a very busy man, he constantly improved his working schedule and put
things in order deferred. The result of his work on time was the famous Eisenhower
Matrix. When implementing our strategy for managing deadlines, we will use this
time management tool.
