Unit 9-Peer Reviewing an Argumentative Essay

Hello see the steps between for instructions U09d1-Unit 9-Peer Reviewing an Argumentative Essay;

·        Do not begin this discussion until you have thoroughly reviewed all areas and resources in Unit 9. In this discussion, you will post a full draft of your Argumentative Essay for your peers to review. You will also write a brief explanation of your writing process for your classmates. You will then review the papers of at least two of your classmates.

To complete your posts, follow these steps very carefully and thoroughly:

1.   Carefully review all areas of Unit 9.

2.   Make sure your Argumentative Essay is in the best shape possible, applying any revisions you deem necessary to your Unit 8 draft before posting.

o

o   Your draft should adhere to all elements of the Drafting an Argumentative Essay assignment and scoring guide, including APA style.

o   For instructions and examples related to in-text citation and end referencing of library articles, please refer to the Argumentative Essay Sample resource. Refer also to the APA section of A Writer's Reference, under Article from a Database and/or to The Prentice Hall Guide for College Writers, the two options for Article from a Journal at the top of page 529. Remember: The only sources you may use for this essay are peer-reviewed scholarly library sources.

3.   After you have completed these steps, write a main discussion post in which you give your classmates some information about your paper.

o   Explain which techniques for argument you used (such as how you used logic and reason, authority and credibility, or emotion; how you addressed and refuted opposing viewpoints; how you organized your essay; and how your sources contribute to your argument).

o   Explain what plans you have for revisions, and what questions you would like your reviewers to answer.

o   Then attach your draft to the post. Do not write your draft in the text field for the message. Be sure to return to the discussion to find out what your peers and instructor have said about your draft.

In Units 7-10, we are focusing on analyzing the goals involved in writing an argumentative essay. In completing Units 7 and 8, you have already worked through the process of choosing a topic, locating scholarly library sources, and drafting. This week, you will continue working with your Argumentative Essay draft by sharing it with your classmates in discussion and performing very rich, careful, thorough peer reviews for your classmates.

You will not submit an assignment to your instructor in Unit 9. Instead, you will post your full draft to the Unit 9 discussion board as an attachment in your main post (performing some revisions first if you would like, based on instructor feedback on your Unit 8 draft and on your own understanding of the goals of this essay). Then you will reply to the drafts of at least two classmates with very rich, thorough peer reviews, addressing all of the peer review questions presented in the Unit 9 discussion prompt in good depth and detail, with an eye toward guiding your classmates toward effective revision.

Please note that the draft you post should meet all the requirements for the essay: the right mearsurement in length; asserting, developing, and supporting a sound argument; utilizing two scholarly, peer-reviewed library articles; and applying correct APA in-text citation, end referencing, and APA document formatting. For instructions and examples related to in-text citation and end referencing of library articles, please refer to the Argumentative Essay Sample resource in this unit. Refer also to the APA section of A Writer's Reference, under Article from a Database, and/or to The Prentice Hall Guide for College Writers, the two options for Article from a Journal, at the top of page 529.

The skills you will demonstrate in this unit are especially important in academic and professional writing—the kind of writing that you will do at Capella and in your career. You will employ accepted organizational and development strategies for argument; for achieving strong clarity, rich depth, and graceful flow as audience considerations in writing; and for formatting your paper to conform to your readers' expectations. In addition, you will apply the drafting and peer reviewing stage of the writing process. These are crucial skills in both academic and professional writing, which greatly benefit not just the classmates you review but also you, the reader, in helping you to conceptualize the goals of good argumentative writing and of good essay writing in general.

The steps involved in successful completion of Unit 9 of this course will include the following:

1.   Reconsider your full first draft of the Argumentative Essay you composed in Unit 8, making any additional revisions you would like before posting to the Unit 9 discussion board.

2.   Utilize critical reading and thinking skills to review the drafts of others.

3.   Apply the comments of others to your own work with this essay.
