Training Process and Needs Analysis: Fabrics Case Study
The first step in taken to cause a change is called a needs analysis. So, what is a needs analysis? There are various definitions; however, to simplify, a needs analysis defines a gap between the current and desired performance. Performance improvement, therefore, is the impetus for training.Needs analysis can be viewed as a good investment if the intent is to reveal performance gaps; yet, sometimes may not be necessary (for example: if the organization is trying to communicate a new vision). A needs analysis is not a one-time event and is systematic based on specific information gathering techniques. There is no easy or “cookie cutter” formula. Each situation requires its own mix of observing, probing, analyzing, and problem solving. A needs analysis should accomplish several important items:
