peer review 2 essays

Question description

I will attach two essay and review them. Read each point carefully and decide whether your classmate’s paper achieves those points. To provide your comments on each point, go to Google Docs and type your comments on your classmate’s paper. Provide clear and detailed comments using the comments function. Additionally, point out any other issues that you can see. Superficial or simplistic comments will cause you to lose peer-review points.

When addressing the questions for each section below, highlight a specific sentence or a couple of sentences and then type your response as a comment.

Introduction

  • Read the first couple of sentences and read the thesis. Then read the entire introduction. Does the introduction go from general to specific? Explain why/why not.
  • Does the introduction provide enough background information and set the scene?
  • Does the introduction mention the importance of the topic? How can it be improved?
  • Highlight the thesis. Is it an argumentative claim? Are there any problems with it?

Body Paragraphs

  • Highlight the topic sentence of each body paragraph. Is it a clear topic sentence that introduces the focus of that paragraph (mainly focusing on the grounds)? If not, how can it be improved?
  • Are the warrants clearly explained? Is it clear how the evidence is related to the thesis?
  • Is there enough support (backing) for the explanations (warrant)?
  • Are there any logical fallacies or invalid/weak arguments?
  • Are there any sections that are not clearly explained?
  • Is evidence from sources integrated well into the paragraphs? Is each piece of evidence relevant to the preceding and the following sentences?
  • Are there any repetitions or sentences that break the flow?
  • Are there any irrelevant examples that break the flow?

Conclusion

  • Does the conclusion start with the restatement of the claim and the main points (grounds and warrant)?
  • Does the conclusion provide any relevant implications based on the entire discussion?
  • Does the conclusion wrap up the essay without introducing a new issue or argument?

Formatting and Grammar

  • Is the APA cover page formatted correctly?
  • Are the rest of the pages formatted according to APA? Are the in-text citations done correctly?
  • Are the end-of-text references formatted correctly?
  • Do the end-of-text references match the in-text citations?
  • Does the author use academic tone and vocabulary?
  • Do you see any of the issues that are mentioned in the Common Errors document?
  • Are there any ambiguous sentences due to vocabulary choice or weak grammar?
  • Are there any sentence fragments or any run-on sentences?
  • Are there any punctuation or spelling mistakes?
