Answer three questions in paragraph form.
1/ Give a specific example of a social movement. Explain why this is a
social movement rather than an example of collective behavior.
Categorize your social movement by type using the types that are
discussed in your textbook and explain why you selected this category.
Use two of the theories about social movements (as discussed in your
textbook) to explain some aspects of the social movement you are
discussing. Be certain to name the theories. Be specific about how
each of theories you have selected relates to the social movement you
are discussing. Be certain to answer all parts of this question. 2/ Using the same example and using material from chapter 10 of
Kendall’s textbook, discuss how one of the functionalist perspectives
(cultural and structural assimilation or egalitarian and inegalitarian
ethnic pluralism) OR one of the conflict perspectives (caste, class or
split labor market perspectives) relates to your example.
3/ Answer either A or B or C for 10% of the test grade. Select just one.
A. Contrast the sociological significance of the following demographic
theories: the Neo-Malthusian perspective and the Demographic
Transition Theory. B. Why is race considered by sociologists to be a
socially constructed reality? C. What is the relationship between social
stratification and social mobility?
