This assignment requires a specific set of steps. Each step is worth points based on the rubric AND those points are related to completing INDEX CARDS with appropriate information on them.
1.     Select a short story or play from our text. If you can find one with a video, you might want to choose that. Or if you can find video interviews with the author of your piece, you may want to use one of those.
2.     Using the ASA databases, find at least two critical articles about the piece you read.If you don't find anything on the text you selected, select a different text or author and try again.
3.     Once you have found a text and two critical articles about it, you are ready to start
A.   Read the text carefully, annotating it on your SECOND reading. Here is a link to a video on annotating a text:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmVAfoXhhPMYou will need to bring your annotated text to class Wednesday, December 14, OR Thursday, December 15.
B.    Read the critical articles about your text and annotate those
C.    Note cards - for the critical articles you need a minimum of three note cards, one for each of the following:
a.      bibliographic information -one card
b.     key ideas from the articles (at least two) - one idea per card
D.   Note cards - for the text you need a minimum of three note cards (one idea per card) identifying the following key ideas from the text such as
a.      images
b.     ideas
c.      symbols
d.     themes
E.    Note cards - you will need one note card that states your research question on the front. Your thesis statement must be written on the back of the card.
F.     Watch the video if there is one, and make note cards as appropriate for the video.
G.   Devise a thesis about your chosen text and write your paper.

NOTA BENE:
This paper will be graded according to the rubric on page nine of the syllabus. Each part of the assignment will earn points as follows:

A.   10% Introduction - based on information in your note cards
B.    25% Note Cards: (Exploration of Question)
C.    25% Outline Form: (Use of Relevant Information) - to include Research Question, Thesis Statement, four to six points of support
D.   10% Conclusion
E.    15% Grammar
F.     15% APA formatting
