Process Analysis Assignment {PA}
Background
There are two types of process analysis: 1) informational and 2) instructional. Informational process analysis is used to communicate information so that a reader or listener will understand how some process occurs or occurred, like how the Electoral College works when electing a U. S. President or how the Grand Canyon was formed. Instructional process analysis is used to teach a reader or listener how to carry out some process, like how to wash a car or how to perform CPR. For this assignment we will be concerned with instructional process analysis. Instructional process analysis often is called “how to” writing.
The Assignment
Choose a “how to” topic that you know well. Make sure the topic is an interesting one that you can make clear in writing. The only restriction on topics is that anything to do with food preparation (i.e., recipes) is prohibited. The essay should be five or more paragraphs in length and highly detailed. As always, follow the conventions of standard edited American English and use MLA format. Remember, this must be primarily an instructional process analysis essay and not an informational process analysis essay.
