understanding of the academic discipline of sociology. One of the key features highlighted in the
first chapter are the three classic theoretical traditions of sociology: Functionalism, Conflict
Theory, and Symbolic Interactionism. As the semester progresses, you will learn more about
these theories and how to apply them to the study of society. For now however, answer the
