Question description

Please do a paragraph about this post with this instruction .

you also have to have a high quality post from a content perspective. This means it also needs to do more than agree with or praise a class mate. If you agree with a classmate, explain why, give an example, share what you learned in the readings

There have been many studies linking improved patient safety outcomes with BSN versus ADN prepared nurses. In 2003, Dr. Linda Aiken and colleagues found that a 10% increase in the proportion of BSN nurses decreased the risk of patient death and failure to rescue by 5%. A decrease in patient mortality and failure to rescue was also found by Dr. Christopher Friese in 2008 (as cited in AACN, 2015), Dr. Ann Tourangeau in 2007 (as cited in AACN, 2015), and in a confirmation study by Dr. Aiken in 2008. I agree that in general BSN nurses would have better patient safety outcomes, although I’m sure most people could name a nurse with an almost perfect patient safety record with a diploma or a nurse with a BSN who makes mistakes regularly. I think education, experience, and personality together have the most impact on patient safety outcomes. A contributing factor could also be that a BSN program takes more time to complete than a diploma or ADN program, or that nurses who have been working for a while go back for their BSN. The longer experience on the floor before or during BSN completion would contribute to improved patient safety outcomes. An example of a BSN nurse advocating for patient safety happened a few weeks ago. A nurse had been reading an article about how inflating the balloon on a foley causes it to stretch, reducing the smoothness of its surface, and may contribute to micro-abrasions and infection when inserted into a patient. She told the nurse inserting the foley, they brought it up to the charge nurse who brought it up to the RNC and now the policy and procedure is under review for best-practices by the nursing board.
