1.    An ice sheet froms on a lake. The air above the sheet is -150C, where as the water is at 00C. Assume the heat of fusion of water freezing on the lower surface is conducted through the sheet to the air above. How much time will it take to form a sheet of ice 25cm thick?

2.    Two examples of an idea gas are initially at the same temperature and pressure. They are each compressed from a volume V to volume V/2, one isothermally and the other adiabatically.

a.    In which sample is the final pressure greater?

b.    Determine the change in entropy of the gas for each process?

c.    What is the entropy change of the environment for each case?
