For this assignment you will enter a social setting you are not familiar with and document what you see. First, to inform and strengthen this project, find at least six scholarly sources related to the topic of sociological research and the topic you choose to address. You will need to cite these references in your paper to support the assertions and strengthen any arguments you make. Use at least one that is not provided in or linked from the course.
If you want, you may write your introduction at this stage, without having done any observation yet. The introduction should include the reasons why you chose this topic. You should also describe why the topic is worthwhile or interesting. This section can be quasi-personal (generally 1-2 paragraphs).
Then go into a social setting you are not familiar with and document what you see. Observe, and perhaps participate, in an environment that is completely new to you and address the following questions:
Take detailed observation notes. Using sociological terms, complete your paper on the experience. Tie in the scholarly sources to support your assertions and strengthen your arguments.
For this assignment, you will want to refer to the handout - Writing an Effective Essay. You may also want to view the sample paper, Does your paper look like this? and use the APA Template paper. Be sure your paper follows APA style according to the CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA Requirements.
Your final paper must be 8 pages long. Cite at least six scholarly sources to support your assertions and strengthen your arguments, at least one of which is not provided in, or linked from, the course. The CSU-Global Library is also a good place to find these sources; utilize the resources found in the SOC101 Research Guide for assistance in your research. You may not use Wikipedia for any CSU-Global assignment. For this assignment, a credible source is defined as:
