I recall receiving a letter from the director of training for a company I was working with on the Fort Polk Army base in Louisiana.  The letter stated the equipment we were working on was being discontinued, and that this was our last week working at the company. The news was a surprise to those who received the letter, the owner of the company let us know that money was miss managed and the company was losing thousands of dollars each month, he stated that he has personal loss thousands of dollars. The letter was effective because it let the workers know that everyone was losing something, we were losing a job, the owner losing a company and finances. "The first job of a leader is to be a clear communicator, because leaders want people to take them at their word an in good times had better choose their words wisely during bad times"(Sittenfeld, 1999).
