Cognitive biases

Cognitive biases are ways of thinking that we all exhibit at one time or another. Cognitive biases can lead to distorted, inexact, and incomplete thinking processes that in turn can lead to poor decisions. Five cognitive biases that you read about in the background material were:

  1. Confirmation bias
  2. Self-serving bias
  3. Belief bias
  4. Framing
  5. Causality

 

For your post, choose two of the five biases listed above and define them. Then give brief examples of when you or a co-worker have exhibited this bias at work. Provide a reference you found useful that your classmates could also use to read more about cognitive biases. (Since we all exhibit cognitive biases, please remember that exhibiting a cognitive bias is not a negative or positive thing, it is just human behavior.)
