Research Assignment This exercise is in preparation for next week's focus: government policy.
1. Conduct some on-line research and find out what is "Hauser Law" - summarize it and provide your
reference. What is the policy implication stemming from this law, if you believe it?
2. What taxes are included in the calculation of the tax revenues/GDP?
3. What can explain this phenomena?
4. Conduct research and find the composition of government taxes: how much of total tax revenues
came from income tax, corporate income tax, payroll tax and other taxes. Graph your findings in a time
series spanning from 1950's to 2010.
5. For a country of your choice (please make sure I know which country you are researching), create a
time-series for tax revenue/GDP. Does "Hauser law" hold for this country as well?
6. Find the composition of tax revenue for this country over time. Summarize the trends you observe in
tax composition over time and comment about any changes to taxation policy this country should
consider.
