To prepare for this week's discussion, reflect on what you know about Federal Controlled Substance Laws with respect to prescriptions.

Research the laws surrounding controlled substance prescriptions as well as the rates of prescription drug abuse. Think about the process of obtaining and filling prescriptions that are CIII-CV vs. CII and the laws surrounding these classes of drugs.

Reflect on your research and discuss the following:

1. Do you think the current laws and regulations surrounding controlled substance prescriptions are adequate? Why do you feel the way you do?
2. Are the laws helping to prevent controlled substance abuse, or merely making it harder for patients to get the medications they need? Explain your rationale and support your opinion. Provide examples or cite your research if appropriate.
