I need to respond to the following.....
The purpose of Disney is “to be one of the world’s leading producers and providers of entertainment and information” (Walt Disney Company, 2017). The structure of Disney is set up to allow for innovation. They use cross functional teams for their innovation. The level of hierarchy are limited and many decisions are made closer to the level of the customers. Disney’s design is set up for all levels to have an opportunity to be creative. Leadership plays a role in helping to maintain open opportunities for creativity and across the different departments. Technology is used within the organization and helps keep all stake holders informed of new innovations.
The use of technology has helped the company remain efficient. At a time of fast paced lifestyles, customers are expecting efficiency in the services they are provided. The use of technology has allowed for customers to be served in this manner and innovation will allow it to continue. The Chairman of Walt Disney World Parks and Resorts stated, "We will bring variations on MyMagic+ to our parks and other businesses around the world" (Richwine, 2015). Reviewing the finances of Disney revealed an increase on the debt to equity ratio. The ratio is still safe at .38 (Morningstar, 2017). While this total is not a major concern, it is slowly rising and should be monitored. The company monitors and adjusts as needed. This increase in debt could have been for a number of reasons and can be part of a growth initiative. Sometimes a company has to invest to grow.
An area I would consider is innovation from the consumers. Similar to Starbuck’s My Starbucks Idea, Disney can allow some innovation from its consumers. Giving an opportunity for people from all ages and diversities a chance to step in the role of the creators for a summer may shed some light on things. The team at Disney works collaboratively and creates value on a regular basis. Brining the consumers in will help avoid group think. As CEO, I would not restructure unless the organization stops creating. The structure is working well and innovation continues. Just adding to the structure can bring a flow of new ideas.
