After the slaves were freed somewhere

After the slaves were freed somewhere after 1865 many slave owners specifically in the south would kill their slaves, to put fear in them, that in their mind blacks were not free, and that slaves still belonged to their matters no matter what war was won to free them. When it came down to African Americans advancing out on their own education wise, “some white people went out of their way to prevent black people from learning” (Perkins 300). Whites would threaten to burn down schools that African American tried to build for themselves to learn to hold them back from learning. Perkins wrote “In Canton, Mississippi, black people collected money to open a school-only to have white residents inform them that the school would be burned and the prospective teacher lynched if it opened” (Perkins 300). Whites were well aware of how intelligent blacks were, and knew they were capable of learning, why else would they prevent blacks from being educated? This could be due to keeping a race down, and keeping African Americans dumb to control them as animals, to clean, cook, and work in the fields. Although, there were some whites who would help assist blacks obtaining land, and schools those whites were also killed. Black codes came about to restrict African Americans of what they can do, and where they can go. They could not purchase alcohol, nor carried weapons. The black codes were enforced, hoping to bring blacks back into slavery. Things have gotten pretty rough, and violent for black Americans after being freed. President Johnson's recreation arrangement allowed just white people to vote in favor of tradition delegates or to partake in the encircling of the new state governments. As anyone might expect, none of the state traditions considered extending the privilege to vote to the freedmen. South Carolina's temporary senator announced at his state protected tradition that "this is a white man's legislature." (“This Is A White Man's Government” 99 – 04).

Question: after the Reconstruction Era we see a number of things occur as it related to blacks. We see many southern states enact laws and codes that were designed to keep blacks in a quasi free state. A state that was as close to slavery as the law would allow.
