roles and applications of biomedical/health informatics

Choose an area of research on the roles and applications of biomedical/health informatics and write a survey of current trends and your opinion. Your paper must be based on facts. Since this is an introductory course to biomedical informatics, your focus should be on an overview and conceptual understanding of the topic you select. Your paper must include the most up-to–date information: select peer-reviewed literature published within the last two years or 24 months. You may ONLY select older peer-reviewed material or books to provide a historical perspective or appropriate definitions.

All papers should be written in a scientific format with an abstract. Students must use AMA style for citations and references. It should be 5-8 pages in length (PAGE Length REVISED), double-spaced, size 12 font, Times New Roman, with one-inch margins. You must make sure that you cover important aspects of the subject and not write a paper with irrelevant or merely superficial information.

In a scientific paper, we normally have abstract, introduction, method, result, discussion and conclusion, each as a separate section. In your paper you may not have a method or a result section to report your own original findings. For such papers, often you do not see methods or a results sections, but you should structure your paper with various headings and subheadings indicating the contents of each segment. For your term paper, you should have Summary or Abstract, then start with Introduction describing what topic you have chosen, why you selected this topic and what you are going to describe in your term paper. Then go on to state what you have found from your information sources including e-books, web resources, and journal articles under various headings and subheadings. For each content area you can combine the discussion or express your own opinions on the specific contents described rather than having a separate discussion section. On the other hand, if you prefer, you can keep a separate discussion section. Then finally you should finish your term paper with a conclusion. The idea is to structure your papers so that it would be easier for the reader to understand or focus rather than having a large write-up without any separations. Use your first page as your title page with your name, course, assignment date and program
