the natural disaster completely destroys a facility,

In my opinion a natural disaster is the most difficult and expensive disaster to plan for.  An earthquake, fire, flood, hurricane and so on are natural disasters that can adversely affect an organization.  If the natural disaster completely destroys a facility, the cost of replacement can be enormous not just by replacement, but by loss of services to customers that expect the organization to deliver its goods.  Expensive and difficult are the two factors that the organization’s leadership must consider, especially when standing up a backup site that should be in place at a different geographical location.  Depending on the industry, this offsite backup location can be hot, cold or warm.  In my opinion companies do plan adequately these days as it can be the determining factor between survival or crash of the company.  I think that the most lacking part in corporate planning is not involving all heads of departments.  In order to have an effective disaster recovery plan, all leads should be included as their expertise can not be replaced by a group that does not have the experience and knowledge on their field.  As for the certification, I will know when I ready for it when I can dedicate time solely to it without any other distractions which include 2 500 level classes ;-)
