We now have a basic understanding of what harassment and discrimination is in the workplace,

I need to post a discussion comment on one of my classmate. I need at least a 75 word comment on the discussion below.

Morgan

In my opinion Social Contract Theory is an ethical agreement made between people that may or may not be enforced with business rules or the law.  An example I can relate this to would be sexual harassment and non-discrimination rules.  As a society we have evolved over time to better define what is or is not considered acceptable verbiage, body language, and situational interactions that would cause discrimination in the workplace.  Thirty years ago some of these laws and regulations did not even exist.  The Pearson tutorial suggests that “because the social contract theory is only an examination of the justice and fairness of political and social and ethical systems, it allows a greater ability to critique the prevailing systems of ethical evaluation.  If our ethical systems do not uphold what the theoretical contractors agreed to, then the system can be changed and modified.” (Pearson, 2015).

We now have a basic understanding of what harassment and discrimination is in the workplace, how to be mindful of it to avoid it, and the repercussion that would be faced if in violation of those rules.  Someone may be held accountable for inappropriate actions both with their employer (warnings, probation, and termination) and the courtroom (fines, penalties, or even jail time).
