When answering questions in the weekly Discussion Forums, please remember to actively work on being both clear and specific in your writing. Actively working on your communication skills here, means writing your ideas out as fully as possible and not resorting to truncation, text-speak, or casual tones in grammar. After all, your PYear is an excellent place to practice and groom yourself for your professional career – something we all need to work on for the rest of our professional careers, I might add.

You can become clear and specific in your academic writing by not only planning and thinking carefully about how you are responding, but by also including considered reasons for selecting and discussing particular aspects of a question. Remember, 100-200 words is not much room to discuss your ideas, and you are not expected to grapple with everything, so be selective in what you choose to discuss.

Lastly, there are no 'right ' or 'wrong' answer to these questions, however you will need to demonstrate and convince your reader of your understanding and explicit engagement with the online course materials, and synthesise this with the practical experience your internship affords you.

Week 7 Discussion Guidelines

  1. Minimum number of posts required this week is 5 - (marks will be deducted if you post fewer).
  2. To keep the signal to noise ratio down, all posts must add to the meaning of the discussion and not just be a conversation.
  3. Answers must be written concisely; marks will be deducted if you “write a lot, but say nothing”.
  4. A quiz does not count as a post.

By Wednesday midnight (AEST)

You must post your initial Risk Management Plan in the appropriate “thread”. Posts in the wrong “thread” may not be marked.

By Saturday midnight (AEST)

Compare and discuss the plan of at least three other people on either Q1 or Q2 combination.

You should then upload the second part of your Risk Management Plan.

Do not change any of the risk management template formulae.

Question 1

Identity your project’s risks

Using the RMP template and after discussion with your supervisor, complete the left hand side of Part 2: Risk Register (i.e. the first five columns, ending in “Risk Consequences”. You should list at least 8 possible risks.

Details of fields in the RMP Risk Register:

  • Risk Ref. No: This is just a sequential number, used as a key for associating with the Risk Treatment Plan.
  • Category: Select Commercial, Finance, Security, Safety, or Legal/Regulatory from the drop down list. You may have more than one risk in a category.
  • Risk Description: e.g. “Older scanners may not work under Windows 12”.
  • Risk Cause: e.g. “Drivers may not exist for Windows 12”.
  • Risk Consequences: e.g. “Invoices cannot be scanned in”.

Upload your updated template to the Forum by Wednesday night.

Question 2

Analyse your project’s risks

Analyse the risks in your project; you may discuss these with your supervisor. Using the RMP template again, complete the right hand side of Part 2: Risk Register (i.e. Impact and Likelihood). Do not change the Rating column, it will be calculated for you automatically by the spreadsheet.

Upload your updated template to the forum by Saturday midnight AEST.
