   An asymptomatic, Low risk

1.             An asymptomatic, Low risk 22 yr old female wants to start a Spinning class at the Rec Center. Please consider what intensity participation in a Spinning class is likely to elicit, given the nature of Spinning. What is her target HR-Reserve range, her target VO2 –Reserve range, her MET capacity and her target MET range? The use of the term ‘range’ suggests a lower and upper Target intensity! Her resting HR is 59b/min and VO2max (Submax bike test) is 41 ml/kg/min. Also, is this woman fit enough to join this class? Explain Why/Why Not?

2.             An asymptomatic, Moderate Risk 52 yr old female wants to join the same Spinning class. She had a maximal graded exercise test done at the local hospital. What is her target HR-Reserve range, her target VO2 –Reserve range, her MET capacity and her target MET range? Her HRmax is 184 b/min (can her HRmax value be correct?); her VO2max is 33 ml/kg/min and her resting HR is 66 b/min. Is this woman OK (i.e., fit enough) to join the class? Why/Why Not?

3.             A 46 yr old asymptomatic, Moderate Risk male wants to start a weight training program. His resting HR is 71 b/min; and his VO2max is 36 ml/kg/min (1-mi. walk test). What is his target HR-Reserve range, his target VO2 –Reserve range, his MET capacity and his target MET range? Is any of this information relevant for this man, with respect to his exercise plan/goals? Explain Why/Why Not?

4. A 74 yr old asymptomatic, Moderate Risk male wants to start a walking program with his buddies. His resting HR is 72 b/min and his VO2max (1-mi. walk test) is 25 ml/kg/min. What is his target HR-Reserve range, his target VO2-Reserve range, his MET capacity and his target MET range? Should he and his buddies be advised to start a walking program? Explain Why/Why Not
