Question description

 

In this course, we are discussing how attitudes of music and patterns of musical behavior, as well as aspects of music are embedded in our everyday culture. Select one or two public places where music is heard (bar, coffee shop, club, retail store, elevator, etc… music is hard to avoid in public these days) where you can spend a significant amount of time observing (at least 30 minutes), interacting, experiencing, and listening to the environment created. I recommend comparing two spaces (i.e. two different restaurants, two different clubs, etc...).

In 6-7 double-spaced pages please describe the multimedia space in which this music exists. Some things to think about

What other senses are stimulated by this environment? What does this place smell like? Are there things to taste? See? Touch? Feel?

Are there other sounds audible in this environment? Do they interact with the music?
