Soc. 100 Social Problem Project Guidelines
Â
The intent of the Social Problem Project is to apply the theoretical and methodological paradigms presented in class and your readings. In short, it is to precisely define an issue or topic, investigate the proposition with at least two methods; literature and other diverse method presented in class, and submit your findings. The quality of research you generate and the engendered findings, the ethics that directed your research and the clarity, which you articulate what you uncovered and your subjective conclusions will be the basis of my final evaluation and grade.

The Research Model
Â
Â
Â
The first step in any research project is to select a general topic. Next, you need to determine if there is sufficient data to scan, scrutinize and consider with the objective to extract the salient data formulating conclusions and suppositions. The goal of this project is not to submit conclusive findings but rather, a set of presuppositions or in other words, a set of ideas and conclusions that demand additional study.

The Research process.
Â
Â
The initial phase in your investigation is to review your text on research design and revisit the ethics outlined in the text and The American Sociological Association web page's ethic statement. I recommend this set of ethics for both sociological and anthropological investigations. Recall the concepts of emic and moral sensitivity. Next conduct the investigation as you designed the project. Generally the socio-cultural data for the project is drawn from the literature but interviews enrich the conclusions tremendously, thus try to interview some individuals if at all possible.

The Presentation
Â
All projects require a work cited page and a simple list of other research conducted. The length should be between 6-8 pages, double spaced, 1" margins and Font 12.
