various communities

instruction: Please respond to this discussion post. Write nothing less than 3 paragraphs. Thank you.

As member's of various communities it is important that we are involved with what is going on around us. So many decisions made about the way we live and interact are made on a community level. I believe that each citizen has the job to do their very best when it comes to their community and work together it improve it. When looking at distributive justice one is looking at the ways in which goods should be distributed among various people in the population. It would make no sense to give the job of snow plow driver to a person who is unable to drive. In this scenario there are two issues, one if a person does not know how to drive they are unable to perform their duty to the community, two if the person can not drive then the snow will pile up and lead to potential accidents. It does the community no good, they are lossing, even if that person is down on their luck and has not other way to make money. It would be better to give this job in the community to a person who is a good driver and even more sspecifically good at driving a snow plow. The justice lie in the fact that no one will be served by a person who is unable to peform a job regardless of the fact that they need it.

Although I highly disagree with some of the things Aristotle says I do have to agree with the fact that giving someone something because they deserve it or have earned it is a very just reason. Its like the story of the flutes, how silly would it be to give them to someone who can not play. Not only does it not benefit the public as a whole in many ways giving them to someone just to put on their shelf would make the useless and that person selfish. Where I draw the line on his philosophy is when it comes to slaves and women. I totally disagree with women being seen as a lower class of being, as so many woman have so much to offer and there are some men out there who offer even less. I also disagree with the fact that you are born into certain situations and it is just you stay there, such as the discusion of slaves. If you bring that into modern day life you could say the same of our poor, but if they are willing to work hard and rise above their circumstance then they to have the right to benefit in society and have a voice.

Rawls and Kant would have much to say on the issues of personal responsibility. Kant would say that people who are better off than others in their communities have a moral obligation or duty to help the less fortunate. Since they are in a place of wellbeing they should feel good about helping others, now if they are only helping them to make themselves look better and for no other reason than according to Kant they are not morally correct. Rawls would look at it this way, they were born with natural talent or privileged upbrings, so therefore they should feel a moral obligation to help those less fortunate. Both would agree that we should help people out in our communities and work together as a whole. In fact when we work together we are creating better communities and futures for our children. We should all feel morally obligated to help each other out. Communities that work together make for a better world to live in.
