M1D1: Differences and Similarities within the U.S. Criminal Justice System

M1D1: Differences and Similarities within the U.S. Criminal Justice System

CJ498 CAPSTONE

Introduction

Civil law, state law and federal law all have similarities and differences. The federal system is set up to provide basic common law rights to all citizens. States may provide more rights to their citizens; however, they cannot infringe on those guaranteed by federal legislation. Civil law does not always follow the same procedures or hold to the same standards as criminal law. You will need to do some research to participate in the following discussion.

Discussion Question

·       List and explain any differences and similarities you find among the federal, state, and civil laws and legal systems in the United States. This will take some research. Are there significant differences? If so, explain what they are. Do you see one system being more stringent, citizen friendly, liberal, harsh, etc.?

Your initial post must be at least 200-250 words, not including citations and references.
