"The Miller's Tale," Chaucer
Â
1) Do you consider The Miller's Tale a satire of courtly love? Why?
2)Â At the beginning of the tale, Chaucer gives a disclaimer concerning the racy subject matter and crudeness of language in the Miller's Tale, since he claims that he (Chaucer) is only repeating faithfully what he heard on the pilgrimage. If we happen to be offended, then, we should not blame Chaucer. What's the joke in this disclaimer? And what is really being satirized?
