Thesis: Lack of rewards and recognition, unfair treatment with inconsistency from the
employers, suppressing employee’s opinions about the workplace policies and procedures are the
main causes of workplace negativity which tends to diminish most of the employee’s morale.
I. II. Lack of reward and recognition kills the morale of hardworking employees. Rewarding a
person for doing a good job always boosts their morale. This makes them want to stretch
their limits and produce the best out of their selves in order to stand out. Recognition of
the best employees in a firm by organizing prize giving days or handing out titles such as
“employer of the month” makes the whole employee team to compete among each other
to find the best. This competition is in terms of the amount and quality of work they do
and the end results will be a big boost in the work done resulting into an increase in the
net profit gained by the organization. Rewarding and recognizing the best and
hardworking employers will always have a positive effect on any given company.
Unfair treatment with inconsistency from the employers undermines employee’s
capability to produce their best. If the employer always favors some specific people
among their work force team it will eventually lead to development of negativity among
those employees. For the whole team to work together they should be treated fairly and
equally without discrimination some of them. Unfair treatment will result into loss of
team work, creativity and willingness among the employee’s force. This will lower their
productivity and in the long run it will be the firm suffering from this as it will incur
many financial losses. Each employee is the same and if any one violates one or more III. company policies then they face the consequences regardless of their status. This will
increase harmony among them.
Suppressing employee’s opinions about the workplace policies and procedures makes
them feel they are working under dictatorship hence cannot contribute good ideas even if
they have them. There may be some polices in the organization which are obsolete and
needs to be changed. If an employee suggests a change in those policies, they should be
heard out and asked to support their reason towards wanting those policies removed and
if valid, actions should be put in place. Employees are the people on the ground and they
are those who know each and every part of the organization. The management team may
not know this as they spend less time on the ground, so any suggestion brought forward
by the employees should be looked into and changes made if necessary.
