BSA 523 Week 6 Discussion 1
Chapter 6 of Operations Management for MBAs begins with a description of the “Big Dig” project in Boston. This highway tunnel project was one of the most complex and technologically challenging highway projects ever executed. The original cost estimate was $3 billion, but the final cost was over $14 billion. With an estimated annual benefit of $500 million, payback is over 78 years. Not a stunning success.
What went wrong? How could proper project management have improved the outcome of the project?
Format your response consistent with APA guidelines.
BSA 523 Week 6 Discussion 2
I just purchased an old house that requires extensive renovation. Please help me with this project, which is really a series of subprojects.
To begin, I need a new kitchen, baths, floors, paint inside and out, and a new roof. I need to be able to move in as soon as possible to avoid paying rent and a mortgage.
How would you define the project and subprojects using project management techniques? Consider the project portfolio, scheduling tools, work breakdown structure, PERT, and CPM. Is Goldratt’s critical chain relevant? What about earned value analysis? Would this add to the project analysis or not be of value?
Format your response consistent with APA guidelines.
