The global business environment has changed location planning strategy. Chapter 8 of Operations Management for MBAs starts with a description of two companies in the earth-moving equipment business, Bucyrus International, Inc. and Joy Global, Inc. Although they make and market the same products to the same markets, they have very different location strategies.
Compare and contrast the two different strategies. Is one superior, or will they both succeed? Why?
