Purpose: To develop a Social Media Marketing Plan for a Hypothetical Business Venture

The MK110 Term project is designed to allow students to demonstrate what they have and are learning in this course about SMM by developing a comprehensive subset of a SMM Plan. A social media marketing plan (SMMP) is a written summary describing everything that an entrepreneur intends to achieve for his or her business using social networks/ platforms as major marketing tools. Not only does a well-developed SMM Plan guide the actions undertaken by a business venture, it also serves as a resource used to evaluate the extent to which a venture is succeeding or failing in achieving its marketing goals using social media marketing tools.

 

To provide you with insights about the nature and content in a SMMP, Chapter 15, which focuses on the SMMP, has been assigned for study. Additionally, previously assigned as well as the chapters that you will be studying each week during the time frame for this term project, will impart insights about social media marketing that you should be able to apply to developing your SMMP.

 

Guidelines

Your objective is to develop a partial SMM Plan which involves the items that are discussed in the next section.

Your social media marketing plan should be based on the premise that you are in the initial stages of a start-up business or launching a new/improved product or service idea. It must consist of the following sections. (Note: Page numbers refer to information in your textbook about the topic which will serve as a guide for what should be discussed in each section of the SMM Plan).

 

Format

Suggested Length of your SMM Plan = Between 6 and 10 pages. Create in Microsoft Word™ using 2-inch line spacing. Insert page numbers

 

Organization

I. An eye-catching Cover Page (p. 270) which contains the following information:

o Your Name (first and last)

o Semester Term Project for: Social Media Marketing, MK110-44, Semester-3, 2017

o The title of this assignment -Social Media Marketing Plan

II. A Table of Contents (p. 270-271)

III. A Compelling Executive Summary (Reference: page 271-273).

IV. A Brief Overview (p. 273) - Describe the industry and your venture.

V. Discuss the type of Competitive Analysis that will be conducted to provide a depth of insight into the issues facing your product, service or brand. (Reference: the SMM S.W.O.T. Analysis Approach described on pages 275 - 279). a. Choose four items from each sector (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) that you see listed on the pages referenced above. You must provide comprehensive explanations to each of the four (4) questions that you choose from each of the S.W.O.T. categories. As you are developing this section of your plan, discuss each S.W.O.T. category in a separate section. List the text of the question along with your answer. (Reference: Table 15.2 on page 276).

 

VI. List four (4) goals that explain what your primary business objective is for using social media marketing tactics across the major platforms. (Reference: Chapter 2, p. 31 - 35; 279). Each SMM goal must comply with the SMART acronym (Reference: page 34, p. 279)

VII. For each goal, describe the marketing strategy that will be implemented to accomplish the goal. (p. 35 - 36; 270)

VIII. Describe the Target Market - List the characteristics of your target market, using, as a frame-of-reference, the Steps in Targeting SMM Campaigns (Fig. 3.3, page 43).

IX. Identify three (3) social media platforms through which your SMM plans will be implemented. Choose from one of the SMM platforms listed below. For each platform that you listed, explain the significant gains that your business venture will accomplish from using the chosen social media marketing platforms. (Reference: pages 281 - 288) a. f. A Platform of your choice that is not listed here.

 

X. Create the content for a (hypothetical) Blog that is intended to capture the attention of your target audience for your product, service or brand. Realizing how vast the world of SMM is, describe the promotion efforts that will be implemented to attract the Target Audience to your blog. Explain why this is the best approach to use in order to capture the attention of your chosen target market. (Suggested length = one paragraph).

 

Citations: Any information that you use in your SMMP that has been derived from a published source (including our textbook) must be properly cited. A list of tools is included in the Term Project folder. Your report must include APA-style citations within the body of your document (i.e., in-text [abbreviated] citations) AND a Works-Cited page on which each in-text citation is associated with each item on the Work-Cited page.
