APA style is used to acknowledge and give credit to the sources that you have used. It is used when quoting or paraphrasing, and taking an idea or opinion from an outside source. One uses citations so that it isn't plagiarized. This also helps the readers in case they want to find more information. They have the source provided so they know where to look. Plus, it helps clarify any uncertainty they may be feeling as they are reading.

 

The purpose of the in-text citation is so that the readers know from who and where you got the information. Again, this eliminates any of their uncertainty. When the reader has the name of the person from which you got information from, they tend to be more supportive of your document. They notice that you have a criterion that supports your document.

 

Example:

The idea of ignoring each other and connecting through texts and photos also portrays how they are missing some crucial elements that are associated with the traditional forms of relationships (Turkle, 2011).

 

2.      In the article that you summarized in week 2, you may have found some information that you want to quote directly. To demonstrate the process for citing a direct quote, provide an example of properly quoted material.
