6.08 Outline Template

Let's review so we can get your outline formatted and organized correctly. For example, let's imagine you
chose personification and simile in your thesis statement in 6.06. I. Introduction
A. Hook (taken from introduction in 6.07)
B. Bridge (taken from introduction in 6.07)
C. Thesis (taken from thesis in 6.06 and introduction in 6.07)
II. Your topic sentence should focus on device #1 from thesis - Example: personification.
A. This should be a direct quotation - an example of a metaphor from his writing.
B. You should explain the example of the personification above in A in 3-4 sentences!
C. You should find another example of a personification.
D. Then you should explain that example of the personification that you gave in C in 3-4 sentences!
III. This topic sentence should focus on device #2 from thesis - Example: simile.
A. This should be a direct quotation - an example of a simile from his writing.
B. You should explain the example of the simile above in A in 3-4 sentences!
C. You should find another example (a direct quotation) of a simile.
D. Then you should explain that example of the simile that you gave in C in 3-4 sentences!
When you analyze the language, ask (and answer) the following questions:
What type of language is it?
What does it mean?
What emotions or feelings does the example evoke?
What does it tell you about how the author feels about the subject?
Why did the writer use it?
What is its effect on the overall message? You should include the answers to these questions in your "Explanations"....Not all the answers to these
questions, but this should help you get thinking of what to include! :)
