Question description

The bottom is my topic and article its about the comments on The New York Times Based  on the hyperlink

I will provide instructions

Reporting on the pulse of the nation

The article on the Light sentence for Brock Turner elicited a lot of reactions from the public with some condemning the accused while others thinking that the ruling was even unfair because the victim was not punished for placing herself in harm’s way. The truth of the matter is that the varied responses on the article showed exactly what the people think about sexual assault. The collective thought from all this responses is that sexual assault, no matter where it happens and in what contexts, it is wrong.

Norman Rogers says that “that said, it’s just amazing to me that the “victim” takes no responsibility for making herself vulnerable — by getting falling-down-blacked-out-drunk. It’s all the guy’s fault for taking advantage of her, and if it hadn’t happened, she’d have had no remorse for her own behavior”. From this comment, one easily learns that both parties have got a role to play when it comes to sexual assault. The victims or the targets of sexual assault are supposed to protect themselves and avoid exposing themselves to danger by being in the wrong places.

The second factor is on male domineering character. One of the readers, Toby, says that “a male dorm mate said to me that all women wanted to be raped – and clearly he was out to do that. This was a disgusting revelation to me”. Males must start being responsible and stop being domineering in the negative way. They should not perceive women as weaklings who must be brutalized. Nobody ever wants to be harmed in any way.

The third factor in this discussion is responsibility. According to sue Collins, “Rape and sexual abuse needs serious punishment” while my discussion will focus on sexual assault, it is very imperative to mention that a sexual offender must be punished for their actions. According to sue, it does not matter in what scenario the offense occurs or the form of sexual assault, but when one is found guilty then they have to punished.

All these conversations sum up what the other readers have in mind. It is incredible how people’s thought on sexual assault is almost similar. Most of the people think that it is wrong and something needs to be done especially if it is happening in the confines of the university. With all these sentiments, the need for my discussion arises strongly. It is good for the victims to understand that some of these crimes they can prevent from occurring to them especially by speaking up.

In conclusion, these reactions will shape my discussion by bringing in a new concept all together. This concept is that of the victim’s responsibility towards not being sexually assaulted. It will analyze the role the woman has to play to keep themselves safe from their attackers and this equally applies to men. This new concept will enhance the debate and make it more interesting as it informs the targeted audience of this report.
