A ballad tells a story in poetic form and is usually set to music. Some more modern renditions would be "Ballad of Billy the Kid" by Billie Joel "Ballad of Peter Pumkinhead" by XTC. One of the most recognized ballads in modern English, however, is "The Walrus and the Carpenter." ( You may know the Disney version in Alice in Wonderland ," but the original text version was written by Lewis Carroll in 1872.
