Topics in Literature Assignment Details - Week 1 Individual Project 1 assignment help

Question description

Deliverable Length: A review of a short story or poem (400–500 words)

Course Objectives:

  • Relate central ideas of specific literary works to contemporary issues.
  • Contribute as knowledgeable, reflective, creative, and critical members of a literacy community.

Assignment

In the culinary world, restaurants and chefs are always under review. They are critiqued in publications, on Internet Web sites, and in culinary circles. A star can propel a restaurant into popularity, while its removal can be devastating. However, a diner need not be Anthony Bourdain to review a meal. Anyone who wants to critique a local establishment can go online and create a review on numerous Internet sites.

The literary world operates in much the same way. Almost every online bookstore contains reviews to help guide readers toward selecting fiction that might suit them. Most of these are written by the general public and are based on personal opinion. For this lesson, you will not be asked to create a scholarly analysis, but rather, an informal review of a short story from the assigned Week 1 reading list. Now, it is your turn to be a critic. Have fun and be creative.

Select the following:

  • 1 of the short stories from this week’s reading assignment
    • "The Grasshopper & The Bell Cricket"

While you are reading, do the following on a scratch paper to prepare for your review:

  • Journal your first impressions.
    • Gather your thoughts to pull together what seems most significant.
    • Include any questions that the selection may have raised in your mind.
  • Keep a running commentary. As you read, jot down all of the following
    • Observations
    • Queries
    • Comments

Review for a short story (400–500 words)

  • Hook the reader with a catchy opening. This will set the tone of your review.
  • Introduce the author and title of your selection.
  • Briefly summarize the story.
  • Provide your opinion of the content. Could you relate to any of the characters in the story? Why or why not?
  • What contemporary issue does your selection relate to?
  • What audience would your selection appeal to? Conclude your review with your recommendation or rating. Avoid being overly negative.

Please submit your assignment.

You will be graded on the following:
