Assignment One: Aging populations and theory Overview: In weeks one through three students learned about global aging, ageism, social
theories, and physical, mental and emotional well-being in later life. For the HW1 essay
students will summarize what they have learned into an objective essay. Course Objectives:

CO6: Analyze the impact of ageism in society. Essay format:
1. The paper should be typed, double-spaced, 1” margins, arial or times new roman 11pt.
font, and saved as a .doc, .rtf, or.pdf in the format: Lastname_SOCI307_HW1.doc 2. The essay should include an APA title page and reference page. 3. Use APA format for citations and references. 4. Short headers for each section are recommended 5. The essay should be 3-4 pages (not counting the title and reference page) Essay instructions:
1. Write an introduction for your paper. 2. Citing our textbook material, describe the global trends in aging and how these trends
influence society. 3. Describe the importance of understanding social theories of aging. What can we learn
about the role of gender, race, class, sexual orientation, functional ability, and the
meaning of the aging experience through the use of aging theories? 4. Explain the key points of age stratification theory and how age stratification may lead
to ageism. 5. Describe two myths related to aging, and how ageism perpetuates these myths. Next,
break down these myths using factual information from the course readings on
physical, mental, and emotional well-being. 6. Write a concluding paragraph which connects back to your introduction and sums up
the main points of your essay. (No new information is added to the conclusion.) 7. Include a reference page titled references. Place the references in APA format. Place
the references in alphabetical order. Keep in mind, a reference cannot go on the
