Read the article about revision strategies by Nancy Sommers on Ilearn under week 5. Then cut and paste your answers to these questions about the article into Eli Review. Number the answers but do not copy the questions.
1)Describe a previous specific example where you made one of the student writing mistakes Sommers discusses
(For example: “When I took Ms. Wong’s biology class last year and had to write a paper on cellular movement, I made the mistake that Sommers mentions in her study of…)
2)Explain in your own words one of strategies experienced writers use that Sommers describes
(For example: when Sommers says experienced writers have a recursive process, she means that they ….)
3)Pose a discussion question based on the reading that other students can participate in.
Here is an example from last semester: Sommers points out how a paper is truly a recursive cycle and that some writers view papers as never finished. Does this mean that all writers must accept that there will never be a truly completed composition and that there will always be room for further improvement? Or does it mean, rather, that if a paper never feels “finished” to a writer, that it should simply be “abandoned,” as Sommers puts it. I’m interested to hear some other opinions as to how this was interpreted.
