In American Society today, there are many things that are going on in our that has to do with the development of our children. One of the main epidemics that I have seen and is aware of is the obesity problem throughout the schools. Many of our children today are overweight, whether it be from lack of excercising or overeating or just not eatng healthy. I believe that this may be due not only to parents that work long hours but the media as well.Â
As we watch television, all we see is commercials of fast food restaurants and soda as well as juice commercials. As children see these commercials ofxourse they are going to want to fastdood.....especially McDonald's. We as a society make it seem okay to feed our children unhealthy. This is a big epidemic that we are now trying to fix in and out of the schools but it is a problem that will take time. Within the wducation realm we have implemented healthy food and more excercising and other resources to help our children but again as parents we must help ourselves. The other epidemic that I have seen is a child being left behind. Now although there has been implementations of differnt resources for our children, I believe that it not only depends on the child but the teacher as well. Teachers often become overwhelmed with school, home and other situations.Although this may not be a topic that is always in the media, I feel as though it is an. epidemic. Our children no matter where they live need an equal amount of help sometimes with some needing additional help. Education is something that everyone needs and has to have. Reading, writing,math,science and more is an essential part od life and all children should be taught no matrer wherher thwy learn fast or slow. Lets not embarass our children because they dont learn as fast as others. I know this is the reason for no child left behind but Infeel like some teachers forget. As a parent I just want to see No child left behind work everwhere and not just in some places. Professionally as areacher I would dedinitely do my best to make a difference in both aspects. With obesity and the no child left behind epidemics, I would always offer my hand and knowledge. I would make sure that whatever school I am at pushes both of these issues for success. |
