GDP gap and expenditures gap. The St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank at http://www.research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/ provides data on both real GDP (chained 2000 dollars) and real potential GDP for the United States. To get the data, scroll down and click on "Real GDP", now scroll down to find and select "GDP/GNP" located under "Related Categories" on the left side of the page. You will need to look at both "Real Gross Domestic Product," and "Real Potential Gross Domestic Product". Click on the names, DO NOT check the box. Above the Real GDP data charts, you will find "Last 5 Observations". Click on that to get the actual data for Real GDP. To get the data for Potential GDP, click on "View Data" in the upper left hand corner.
