Describe the role of the Torah in the Jewish faith. Explain the Torah’s significance to the Jewish people and why it is important to their faith.

The Jewish teachings are known as the Torah. In its narrowest sense, the Torah refers to the five books of Moses. On the next level, it means the entire Hebrew Bible and the Talmud, the written and oral law. For some, Torah can refer to all sacred Jewish literature and observance. At the highest level, Torah is God's will, God's wisdom. Because of the great responsibility of humankind, traditional Jews give thanks that God has revealed in the written and oral Torah the laws by which they can be faithful to the divine will fulfill the purposes of Creation by establishing a Kingdom of God here on earth, in which all creatures can live in peace and fellowship.
