Air Pollution and Solutions

Pollution refers to the contamination of the environment, either air, water or soil(Watt 67). Are there any negative effects of is air pollution? The term pollution is now very common in every place. We hear about it every now and then in mass media. Air pollution is contamination of air by the human being and industries. Any alteration that occurs to the atmosphere such as the release of harmful gases, smoke and dust and makes itimpossible for animals, human being and plants to have a healthy life is referred to as air pollution.

As we all know the activities which cause air pollution are sources of employment and livelihood to many people, we should work as team to minimize the air pollution as it leads to global warming andeutrophication.

We should all work together to minimize the air pollution which is a major cause global warming. Everyone in the world is feeling the devastating effect of global warming such as a change in weather pattern. Many scientific research shows that climate pattern is changing due to warming. Most of the changes which have been observed since the 1940s are many of the observed changes since the 1950s are exceptional over twenty to hundreds of years. Increase of the temperatures in the world have increased the levels of drop of icebergs in the mountains and loss of “homes” for the animals which stay in those areas(Mark, Jacobson 76). United Nations intergovernmental panel on climate change in 2014 concluded that influence by human being is the main cause of the seen changes in warming from 20th centuries. This is due to release of greenhouse gases like nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide and methane.According to the research, it shows that during the 21st century the temperature of global service is going to rise to 1.7 degrees Celsius from 0.3 degrees Celsius for the high emissions. The report shows that the global warming will continue to increase and a result of the pollution to the air as predicted by the national science.

The condition by which large quantities of nitrogen gases available in  some pollutants is developed at the sea and forms into algae which as adverse effects to fish animal and plants in the water is called eutrophication(Barker, Jerry , David, Tingey 156).When we see the algae available on the ponds and lakes we should know is due to chemicals released to the water. To be more precise we can define hypertrophication as the process by which oxygen is depleted in water bodies, therefore killing the aquatic or marine animals and plants. Phosphates is responsible for inducing growth of algae and plants(Mark 234). Oxygen in the water is consumed by decayed plants and algae. Excess phosphates such as detergents, fertilizers and industrial waste affects the aquatic air which was seen as the main contributor in the year 1970s.

We should all work together as a team to reduce the global warming. We can try and use methods such low consumption as this is the major way to cut down the emission of greenhouse gases .We can also try to use reusable fuels which do not release toxic gases to the air. When making purchases of things such as a car or vehicles we should purchase a car that last longer and consume less fuel. This will reduce the emission of dangerous gases in the air when using them. As we all know, transportation is the second cause of the global warming due high emission of gases by the vehicles. Reduction of travelling like in airplane can help a lot as we know that they are the main emitters of the greenhouse gases. We can also encourage cycling to work to reduce the number of vehicles which emits the gases.

The main solution for eutrophication is composting which is actually a fertilizer substitute. One can do this on his or her own by just burying the orange peels in his or her backyard. After burying food, the nutrients assist the plants in growing. Such nutrients lack the nitrates and phosphorus which cause the blooming of algae, so when run-off takes place, it is not possible to cause harm to the water quality. Composting may be a solution to the farmers too. If most of the farmers use composting rather than fertilizer in their farms, this will prevent any destructive run-off into the water.

Same thing applies to the big manufacturers. The waste gives off phosphates and nitrates easily just like the fertilizers do. After the manufacturers release waste products into the ground, the run-off from such wastes mixes with the water and the pollutants get released into the air too. If we place limits onto the quantity of waste which should be released by each company, then water, ground and air pollution will be highly reduced, just like the eutrophication which is caused by the run-off. Also, there will be less air pollutants if the companies will cap the quantity of waste that they discharge.  Decreasing pollution and increasing eutrophication is the key to solving eutrophication problem.  When these is done, only less phosphates and nitrates will be capable of entering our waters, and this will provide a healthier surrounding for the underwater creatures.

Definitely, we know the activities which have led to the air pollution are the main drivers of the economy and have created a lot of job opportunities, we should check on the ways of reducing the global warming and eutrophication. Due to the high emission of greenhouse gases the ozone layer is been depleted leading to the high temperature and change of climate pattern. If we can reduce the level of emitting the greenhouse gases by using cycling and reducing the usage of cars means of transport the change in climate patterns will be a change of the past. To control the eutrophication caused by phosphates materials which makes the life of aquatic plants and animal dangerous through reduction of releasing the toxic materials to the rivers we can make air pollution a thing of the past. We can also see we have a series of attempts and innovations that are been done by governments and non-governmental organizations reduce the air pollution so that we can a have better tomorrow.
