read Letitia L. moffitt's novel "TRACE" and write a discussion which is required 400 words

To read this novel and write a discussion which is like a discussion i attached below.

I thought trace was an interesting novel in how the trace actually would work. Many times there are psychic crime novels and a person can see the murder take place or they can look into the past, or track the crimminal. This usually means that if the protaganist has any morals that they have to help solve the case. But this is different in trace because it is such a minimalistic talent where even if there is a feeling of death it could be from any kind of death, maybe not even related to the case. Because of that Nola does not have to feel bad that she does not continue with the police department because even though she can some times help, she is not necessary.

There is also the issue of addiction that is going on in the book that makes an impact as you really are kind of afraid of the man who is addicted to trace. And there is a reason to be as he is scary at the end where he could have let the murder take place just so that he could get his next fix. It also almost seems like a comentary on doctors who are addicted to pain meds. Doctors work at a hospital but use their working there to get their next fix, while this guy is a doctor who works as a doctor and even though he is sports doctor, he still ends up hanging around hospice for his next fix. However there is something simpathetic in the portrayal with the man unconsiously calling out for help through his trace. Because even though he does not want to stop something in him knows it is wrong.

One thing that i found that did not work for me in the novel was on how bad most of the relationships were portrayed. whilei get that Nola is supposed to feel alone and that might impact her thinking on relationships and so how the reader would see the relationships too, but there only seemed to be one happy relationship, and they were newlyweds. Nola was just to cynical when talking about relationships most of the times, and even though she pulled back a bit it was still more pessimism from a rather cynical character already. I also would have liked  a bit more description of the characters. i knew how they acted, but i could not really picture any of them much except for the police officer Nola had a crush on. I had a hard time picturing Nola even.

This was however an interesting quick read that had a good mystery in the background that did not actually have a murder in it and a good twist with the chemicals. Some questions that I have are. Where did the idea of trace come from? The father and mother characters were entertaining, were they inspired by anyone? Like I said earlier it was interesting to read the doctor character, was it hard to figure out how to write the character? Was the dinner part with the animals trying to draw paralells to what the doctor is doing when taking trace, in the wrongness and tourture?
