In 1957, Nevil Shute published On the Beach, a novel about a post-apocalyptic world. This book was made into a movie in 1959. A short summary of the book can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_Beach_(novel). This book describes the consequences of highly technological war. Chapter 10 in the textbook describes some highly technological tools of warfare, such as chemical agents. Do you believe that we should be developing these even if other countries are adding them to their arsenal? What are the alternatives we could use to prevent the use of potentially lethal chemical agents? How do we stop others from their development? What about the use of drones in warfare?
