Prompt:For this assignment, you will examine your understanding of style in 2-3 pages. Obviously, there is much to say about style (you have 3 different textbooks that examine it), so your definition should attempt to synthesize what you have learned from the assigned readings, your experience with other writers’ work, and your own experience as a writer.  You discussion may include but is not limited to the following:

·         The elements of style

·         The parameters of style

·         The characteristics of good and/or bad style

·         The role of style in making meaning

 

Requirements:  Essay should be 2-3 double-spaced pages, 12 pt. Times New Roman font, 1” margins.  Please follow MLA manuscript format.

 

Evaluation Guidelines:

A.       The definitionshould include a clear statement of claim including any necessary qualifications, a clear explanation of reasons and evidence, and enough relevant evidence to support the claim.

B.       The writer establishes his/her definition, clearly distinguishing it from what the writer perceives to be objectionable definitions.

C.       The reasons and evidence presented by the writer should be convincing.  Readers should be able to understand the definition, the reasons for this particular definition, and any implications for accepting this definition.

D.       The essay should be free of grammatical, mechanical, and usage errors.
