In considering three empirical research studies for an investigation of the impact of culturally intelligent leadership within a community college it is critical to understand the elements of leadership and the community college environment. Hlinka, Mobelini, and Giltner, (2015) research involving a rural community college, in Kentucky is relevant given that the study examines how the students view themselves and their futures. Social Constructivist theory which suggests that knowledge is produced from the social environment. Ramsey and Lorenz (2016) research sought to determine if cultural intelligence could be learned within a classroom. This research was grounded in Multiple Intelligence theory which suggests that we interpret our surrounding suing a number of interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligences. This theoretical framework could inform the proposed research given that understanding leadership behavior and levels of cultural intelligence could be viewed through the lens of Multiple Intelligence theory. Lopes-Murphy (2014) examination of postsecondary education and motivation, which is considered part of the range of intelligences, analyzed 62 study’s across different cultures. This is also relevant to the proposed research given that motivation is a factor in student performance and effective leadership.
